Rather they should be cut into segments.

I saved time by dumping the chicken onto a large sheet pan and cooked it for 1 hour at 200 degrees, then broiled on hi for the last 30 minutes watching it closely and flipping each piece of chicken once to get that nice char. I also drained some of the juice between cooking and broiling.
